Kevin + McKenzy | First Anniversary Session in Louisville

This is my favorite kind of session — the kind rooted in a place that already matters to the couple, where personal details show up naturally and there’s room for real moments. When that happens, the images hold more of who the couple is, not just what they look like.

Kevin and McKenzy were married a year ago at St. Mary of the Annunciation on a Friday in early November, with a reception at The Pointe in Louisville. If you saw their engagement session, you may remember they chose to have a beer together at one of their favorite spots — small, everyday pieces of their life that say a lot about them. This anniversary session followed that same thread.

We met by the river in Louisville, where they had gone on a date early in their relationship. We made some classic portraits, and in between, they shared a beer, laughed together, and attempted to fly a kite — the one they intended to use didn’t catch much wind, but the backup worked just fine. It was straightforward and relaxed, the kind of session where they could be at ease with one another.

What stands out in these images is how clearly they reflect who they are as a couple — the ease, the laughter, and the way they naturally fall into step with one another. The photos feel like them, without needing to be anything else. It’s a comfortable rhythm that photographs well because it exists whether the camera is there or not.

Happy first anniversary, you two. I’m grateful I get to document these parts of your story — the big days and the quiet in-between.
